Sea Glass Jewelry:
Origin - Caribe Colors was established to support the local artisans in the region and is open to the participation of any artisan that produces quality work, in our estimation. Our policy regarding sea glass jewely is to only allow for the sale of items incorporating 100% genuine sea glass, that is, glass that has been worn smooth by the natural interaction of waves, sand and seawater over a long period of time. As we do not directly participate in the collection of every piece of glass, we rely upon the honor of the participating artisans as to the origin of their glass.
Color - Sea Glass is much more readily available in certain colors (ie. Greens, browns and clear) than others (ie. cobalt blue et al) due to the fact that the vast majority of manufactured glass items, which might end up as sea glass, are of the aforemost mentioned colors. Jewelry utilizing rarer naturally colored glass will thus be offered at a higher price than that using more common glass. Since customers are always looking to match there accessories with there attire, artisans might choose to accomodate their demands by colorizing their glass. In these cases they will start with clear sea glass and then use a process where a dye and a metallic powder is baked on in an oven to insure the permanence of the colorization. In other cases artists may paint designs directly on their glass. Caribe Colors wants to encourage artistic creativity within its community and therfore leaves esthetic decisions to the artisans themselves. If you have a question about any particular piece of jewelry being displayed, please feel free to contact us directly.
